Norwegische Berichte:

Germany beat Norway Under-23s by 1-0 at La Manga yesterday but trainer Gøril Kringen was pleased that the U-23 girls improved in the second half.

Norway played their first match in the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga on Monday. Germany were as expected tough opponents and worked harder from the start. "We met a team that are in the middle of their season and were strong and aggressive. They were more into the match from the start than us and dominated the play", said assistant trainer Kringen, who is leading the team at La Manga while Jarl Torke is in Chile with the Under-20s.

Even though they dominated the play, Germany did not make much from it, but two minutes into injury time in the first half Stephanie Goddard scored after a free kick. Norway did not manage to raise their game after the break.

"We came more into the match in the second half and took over some of the play. We had some chances including a shot on the crossbar. Germany had some problems as we all went forward in the final minutes, but they won deservedly. I am pleased that we managed to come more and more into the game", said Kringen.

In two days the Under-23 girls meet the USA, who are one of the best teams of all at this level. "I am going to see their match now. The USA have a very good Under-23 team which will be a big challenge, but we are happy and take some positives from today's match", said Gøril Kringen.

As well as the USA, the team will meet England on Friday. Kringen is happy with the experience so far. "It has gone well for us. There is always a wind at La Manga but the pitch is good and we are working well. I think we can reckon to raise our game through the week", she said.

Norway's Under-23 women lost their second match at La Manga on Wednesday. Gøril Kringen thinks the players are too light in duels.

The assistant trainer thinks the opponents stamped their mark on the matches too easily. "We have been beaten physically in two matches now. We have lost the ball a little to easily and there is feeling that the USA and Germany are very physical teams. We are a team with good skills but the strong wind gave us problems in playing our own style", said Kringen. "I could have wished we had done a little better. The other teams have bossed the matches too easily".

In the first half against the USA Norway played against a strong wind. This helped the USA and they occupied Norway's half of the pitch. After 21 minutes the red-shirts could not keep them out any longer. "They had many throw-ins, and against the USA a throw-in was as good as a corner. They scored a goal which should have been avoided. They took a long throw, won the second or third ball, and put it into goal", said the trainer.

"In the second half we came forward more easily and played more football. The USA central defenders were strong but slow. But we didn't manage to outwit their back room".

After 72 minutes it all went wrong for keeper Erika Skarbø and she let in a simple back-pass from Trude Johannessen. "Obviously it was the type of goal you don't want to see, but fortunately it was not decisive. Erika otherwise played a very good match", the trainer summed up.

At the end of the match the USA's Nikki Krzysik got a red card. Norway answered by placing four up top, but did not manage to make a goal. All in all the USA win was deserved.

Even after the loss Kringen was not complaining. "We are in February so I am not grumbling. Most of them have had heavy training in their clubs and we are not at the top of our game. And we have some new players who haven't had time to raise their level. There is step up ahead to the top level but this is a very good learning experience. We must be much more up with the USA and Germany at the Open Nordic championship in the summer", she said.

On Friday the Under-23 girls meet England in the tournament's last match. "England impressed on Monday by beating the USA 3-0, but it's difficult to see much difference between them. USA were a little weary after a long journey. England are a team we should be on a level with", concluded Gøril Kringen.

Norwegische Berichte:

The Norway Under-23 girls won by a whole 5 goals to nil against England in the week's last training match at La Manga today.

"Today we showed our high potential", said Gøril Kringen. Earlier in the week England beat the USA. On Friday they were overrun by the Norwegian girls at La Manga.

"We are well pleased. In the two first matches down here the game settled into a pattern quite early. Today we managed to get in the driving seat from the start. We have many good ball players in the team, and we showed it with a lot of good football", said the assistant trainer.

She praised the whole team. "We were good in defence, and at the same time we managed to keep the ball and get forward. We stressed England, they were running a lot without the ball and lost the initiative. England have been good here, and it was a solid team that we met", Kringen emphasized. "It was good to get a win after the other matches".

Norway took command from the start and Gunilla Forseth took them into the lead after only 12 minutes. Bettina Langlo Jevne made it 2-0 after 18 minutes and Nasra Abdullah increased the lead further just before half time. After the break 21 minutes went by before Ingrid Schjelderup scored the 4-0 goal and Aimee Edris had the honour of putting the crown on the work with 5-0 in the 82nd minutes.

During the week at La Manga the players have spent a lot of time watching both their own and other matches on video. Kringen is happy with the players' response. "There is a whole lot of learning in watching on video, which the players will also say. They experience match situations where they have felt they were hard pressed and had a bad time, and they see there are possibilities in other places on the pitch. They showed that against England. Intelligence on the ball was the biggest plus in the match", she said.

In addition to England, the Under-23 national team has also played against Germany and the USA this week. In spite of the losses in those games Kringen is well pleased with the year's session at La Manga. "It has been a very positive experience. We have been matched against the best teams in the world. We have seen how the land lies. This week we have taken a step forward at international level and put right some things that we started with".

The assistant trainer thinks that several of the players in the squad can step up to the A-team with time. "During the season Erika Skarbø is a distinct possibility for the senior side. We also have some other players who are coming up to the level, but I am uncertain about whether they will achieve it this season. Anyway I think they will manage to step up before too long", Kringen concluded.
