England v Russia
UEFA European Women's U19 Championship
ZTE Stadium, Zalaegerszeg
22 July 2005
After victory over Scotland on Wednesday, the England Women's U19s go into this evening's game against Russia in the knowledge that a win would see them reach the last four, providing Scotland do not beat France.
"We always said that to qualify from the group stage would be a massive achievement and [the win against Scotland] has helped us towards that," said the England coach Mo Marley.
"Now we just need to keep focused on the task at hand against a Russian team who are sure to be a real test of our abilities."
Should Marley's side go through to the last four, they would also qualify for next summer's world championship, a target that the England set-up have set themselves.
Russia reached the European Championship semi-finals in Finland last year but are in serious danger of falling at the first hurdle here in Hungary after losing 4-0 defeat by the French.
Russia coach Valentin Grishin said: "Going into the game against England, we're up against it. We have to look and analyse the game against France and speak seriously with the players about their performance.
"I can promise that we will fight much more in order to secure our qualification from the group."
England's starting eleven for tonight's game shows two changes to the side that defeated Scotland 3-1 on Wednesday.
Everton 'keeper Danielle Hill comes into the side to replace Carly Telford who fractured her collarbone, whilst her Everton team-mate Chantelle Parry comes in for Fulham's Danielle Bird.
